Store owners throughout the town will be lining the sidewalks with items priced to sell as they make room for their new fall inventories. Not a big shopper? Come out for the treasure hunt instead. Just pick up your treasure map and clue sheet at any shop with a skull and crossbones in the window.

Day 341 of 365 Things To Do In Edmonds, WA – Summer Concerts in the Park (City Park)

Bring a blanket or lawn chairs, a picnic and the whole family and join us for a variety of engaging concerts held at Edmonds City Park. All concerts are about one hour. From folk music to big band, spend a relaxing Sunday afternoon at a free Concert in the Park.

All concerts are FREE, ADA accessible, and presented by the Edmonds Arts Commission on behalf of the Edmonds City Council. In the event of rain at the site, the concert will be canceled at 2:30.

Day 335 of 365 things To Do In Edmonds, WA – Taste of Edmonds

It’s time for the annual A Taste of Edmonds! Presented by the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce, this popular festival provides fun for the entire family. It is run by over 200 committed volunteers, some of whom have worked on the planning committee for years. The festival funds Chamber programs and services that support a variety of community events in Edmonds.  Food and other vendors who belong to the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce will have a special designation on their booths this year. Be sure to stop by and say hello to them. Running Friday, through Sunday, (The second weekend in August) A Taste of Edmonds brings together great food and drink, high-energy entertainment acts, fun kids’ activities, one-of-a-kind arts & crafts, and unique hands-on activities — all in the heart of Edmonds.

Day 333 of 365 Things To Do In Edmonds, WA – Junk O Rama (Bountiful Home & Nursery)

Bountiful Home and Nursery will host the annual Junk O Rama event. This fund raising event is an artist gathering of collectors who love to re-purpose, reuse and recycle. From many walks of life this junk tribe will sell treasures that amaze.
In tandem with Junk O Rama is Parasols on Parade, another fund raising event. Five market umbrellas have been given to local artisans to embellish. These amazing and whimsical works of art will be on be on display throughout downtown Edmonds raising awareness for the event and to raise money for the Edmonds City flower fund.
We are passionate about beautifying Edmonds with flowers, so what a better way to get involved, then to give to the one fund that really supports Edmonds beautification. So join us on the 2nd Saturday in August for Junk O Rama in the gardens at Bountiful Home and Nursery.

Day 330 of 365 Things To Do In Edmonds, WA – Students from Edmonds’ Japanese Sister City arrive

 

August 2011 – Hekinan students travel to Edmonds

A delegation of students from Hekinan, Japan, descended on Edmonds Friday as part of the ongoing relationship between the two cities and met residents during the Edmonds Summer Farmers’ Market Saturday &  playing Petanque on Monday.

During their stay, students are hosted in the homes of Edmonds families and will have an opportunity to meet local students and dignitaries as they learn about American culture.

Edmonds Sister City Commission member Stohn Nishino says that the Commission facilitates two student delegations annually, one with students from Hekinan visiting Edmonds for two weeks and one where Edmonds students visit Hekinan.

These delegations are just a small part of the work of the 12 volunteer members of the Commission as they seek to “raise awareness” of the value of this kind of cultural exchange. They also host other events throughout the year, furthering their mission “to promote international communication and understanding through exchanges of people, ideas and culture.”

Historic Cemetery “walk back in time” open house is held on the third Thursday of July. This event is free and held at the cemetery. It’s a day of costume’s and history about our Edmonds cemetery.

Historic Cemetery Walking Tour

The Edmonds Memorial Cemetery & Columbarium was placed on the Washington State Register of Historic Places in 1972. This cemetery is the resting place of many Edmonds pioneers, mayors and veterans from 6 different wars. The walking tour will help you learn about the history of the people that molded Edmonds into the kind of town that it is today. The historic cemetery walking tour can be a guided tour or done on your own.

ARTSplash is a four-day art show exhibiting original art by established and emerging artists. Nearly 50 artists display original art across a broad range of styles and mediums from painting, printmaking, and photography to clay, fiber, and jewelry.

The show will include on-site artists demonstrating their creative talents. Art lovers can enjoy award-winning work as well as works of new, never-before-seen art at the annual July show at ArtWorks.
