Day 346 of 365 Things To Do In Edmonds, WA – The Winged Pig

 

Welcome to The Winged Pig -

       A Neighborhood Watering Hole

The Winged Pig is another venture from Chef Michael Young and his fiancé, Irina.  Their idea was to create a neighborhood joint; an adult place to have an adult drink in an adult manner.  There are no DJs, no loud music to scream over, no kids on fake IDs and no pretentiousness. 

Instead we offer two fireplaces, a motley assortment of wing backs, club & captain’s chairs, a sofa, a pair of big screen TVs with the volume muted and a warm, convivial atmosphere.  Perfect for date night, meeting a group of friends or just hanging out.

Their goal is to provide a stiff drink or a local brew at a reasonable price.  The food is inspired by street and bar food from around the country and the world.

Their collection of pigs grows every day.  We hope you will come join us soon.

Day 303 of 365 Things To Do In Edmonds, Wa – Celtic Cowboy BBQ

Celtic Cowboy BBQ is a takeout and catering company in Edmonds, Washington. They use a selection of Washington State woods to slow smoke their meats. All products are made from scratch with recipes Steve and Lisa have either created or inherited from their Scottish and Southern friends and family!

In the late 1990s, Steve moved to Dallas, Texas where he met my wife, Lisa. Lisa and Steve moved to Austin, which is where he learned how to smoke barbeque. The first pit that Steve ever used was a converted 1940s water heater that his next door neighbor’s Dad made. After his first experience of cooking real barbeque, Steve  never looked back.  

They moved to Seattle in 2000, and the fire for smoking meat was still in his heart so Steve started experimenting with different woods and tastes from the Northwest. After several annual barbeque events at their home, he decided to follow his instincts and with the encouragement of family, friends and neighbors to start his catering business.

In addition, their annual barbeque has turned into a charitable event for the local food banks and various other charities. The chance to share his passion for barbeque and help out others at the same time was too good to pass up!

IVAR’S HISTORY

The Northwest dining legacy that is Ivar’s began in 1938 with one very entrepreneurial spirit, the late Ivar Haglund. His future in music and entertaining took a slight detour when his waterfront aquarium needed a venue to feed its guests. Using his classic Northwest seafood recipes, Ivar’s was born. This dining destination has since spawned many more restaurants to delight future generations. View the Ivar’s timeline, see “our flounder’s” wacky and never-ending promotional antics, and take a glimpse at Ivar’s amazing, full life.

 Ivar Haglund was a true Seattle character and icon. He was known as an entertainer, folksinger, restaurateur and ultimately the “King,” “Mayor” or “Patriarch” of the waterfront. The story of Ivar’s Seafood Restaurants began in 1938 when 33-year old Seattle native Ivar Haglund opened his city’s first aquarium on Seattle’s Pier 54. Droves of people lined up and paid a nickel to view the sea life that Ivar had collected from the surrounding Puget Sound. Noticing that his patrons were working up an appetite, Haglund began to sell red clam chowder and fish n’ chips from the site – an instant success that began his career as a restaurateur.
