After several years of interest by the Port Commission, the Public Plaza project was approved early in 2007 with a contract let in April of 2007. The project was completed at the end of June and is now open for the enjoyment of the boating community and the general public. The project includes several amenities including: grassy knolls, public outdoor area for small gatherings, enhanced landscape features and an enlarged sandbox for enjoyment by children of all ages. The Plaza is a great addition to the waterfront as people will be able to sit down, visit and enjoy the beautiful views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountain range. Port Commissioner Marianne Burkhart states that “The Port of Edmonds Commissioners have supported the development of the Public Plaza for a long time and we hope the Plaza will be a welcome community gathering site.”
